50,000 Hits and counting

December 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Dear Readers,

Yesterday, this blog reached a milestone. 50,000 hits. It has been two and half years since I started writing here and and it feels great after all the posts and comments. I agree, this is nothing compared to most other mainstream blogs who have as many hits a day. But, this is a personal blog and to have reached this milestone without knowing even one reader in person, makes me very happy.

At this point, I would like to thank each one of you.

I am planning to do a post on the statistics of this blog more like the one I did sometime last year.

Cheers.

~B

Looking back at 2007

January 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

The year 2007 has been a great one personally for me for various reasons. Its never too late to look back. Well, the points seem to perfectly connect looking back.

A job switch – for good :)

Jan 2007 – I got into my new job. Though the process, had begun during the late months of 2006, it was in January 2007, that I stepped into my job

New friends

The new job brought a lot of great people together and in great variety from all parts of India. A few of them went on to become my best buddies. Some even as late as November. I have fought with one of them like I never did – shame. Things are fine now.

My first laptop

During the month of May, I got my first laptop. A Dell Inspiron 6400. It came with a Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 processor clocking 1.73 GHz, A GB of RAM, 120 GB HUD and guess what, Windows Vista Home Premium. Laptop rates have been going downhill ever since. No regrets though. I am dual booting Ubuntu 7.10 :)

Three friends got married

Yes, THREE of them got married. All three to the people whom they wanted to marry. One went smooth. The other two had some minor issues that were sorted out before the event. Two more are still single, but well on their way to get married. That leaves me the last bachelor among our friends ;)

Freaking out

This has been a party year. Every month I earned the envy of my friends by sharing a photo album or two. Courtesy of my employer.

Work mode

November 13, 2007 · Leave a Comment

After coming back from yet another vacation – yes, I was on vacation for about 2 weeks ;) – I am back to Work mode. I have been quite busy catching up with what is left over and also a few other things.

A friend of mine got married and we had lots of fun at the wedding. Marriages seem to be the place where most of our friends gather these days. A few were missed since they could not attend but everything went well.

In the mean time I am thinking hard on what to write.

Here are my tips for the Blog action day:

1. Optimize power usage – switch off computers when not in use

2. Optimize paper usage – use electronic documents wherever possible

3. Optimize fuel oil usage – use alternate energy where possible.

Easy. Isn’t it ;)

Closing accounts on other platforms, sites

October 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

For the past two or three months, I have been doing something very important. Closing accounts on various websites that I test. I had closed my wetpaint wiki, livejournal and tagged accounts.

While it is fun to go through each site and see what they offer,  I just dont want to have so many things and finally get into a real mess. In a short while I am planning to close Vox too and stick to WordPress. Well, Vox looks tempting but does not provide nearly as many features or the addictive stats. Sorry Vox.

My Blog Statistics

October 11, 2007 · 2 Comments

Well, I had been thinking about this for a long time. Today I had the time and the patience to do it. What was that? Consolidate the statistics of this blog.

I have prepared a rough document and put it here for all of you to see :)

Some cool graphs to summarize. I had taken all the data right out of my sitemeter.com account. All the graphs were created with OpenOffice.org 2.3.0

No prizes for guessing this one. Win XP wins hands down

Well, again, no prizes here. Firefox turned out to be the most widely used browser by the readers of my blog.

Traffic Distribution

The real surprise was here. Until a few days ago, it was North America, from where most of the traffic to this site came from. Well, Europe just snatched the first place as of today

Traffic Distribution - Continent Wise

I dont pay for sitemeter, so no display resolution, Javascript and such details. Well, that would have been nice but I am satisfied with what I have got so far.

And, I have the satisfaction of completing a long due post ;)

Life comes a full round :)

September 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well, its been a kind of cycle. I get busy with work, then take time off. This has happened in quite a short span of time. Amidst this hectic life, what I just could not pull off is to write a few lines here. Well, I have been posting two liners once a month. Bad huh!! :(

Yes, I am on vacation again, but not for long. Just 4 days including the weekend, and one day National Holiday. So that translates into 1 day when I will be out of office.

In the months gone by, personally there are a couple of new friends, handful of my old pals got married, few of them changed jobs and overall everything seems to be ok.

Right here, I have applied a new theme to my blog, changed its name, tag line.  All these days, Dell Inspiron 6400 – Part 4 – Installing Ubuntu 7.04 has been the top post of my blog clocking at least 30 hits a day. Well frankly, that is quite a bit of traffic for my blog ;)

I have installed Pidgin 2.2.0 on my Ubunty Feisty Fawn and its looks good. I have not tested it completely so I have not planned for a post here anytime soon. All that I was able to do was some basic chat and it looked quite ok to me despite some drastic changes from GAIM.

Lots of….work!!

June 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Its been some time since my last post. Work is taking up most of my time these days and I am unable to post regularly. But, yes, a lot of work is just what the doctor ordered since I did not have too much to do in the last couple of months. Work helps me to get back to my normal speed of doing things both at home and at office. I know, some of you might hate that statement, but, yes, that’s me :D

At this point, I have no ideas on what to post about. Let me just think. I have a whole day tomorrow to come up with ideas.
