I’m back :)

I am back after almost a month of hibernation 🙂 .What have I been doing all these days? Work. Yes, you read it right, work.

I was working long hours in the past few weeks and was unable to post something useful. Not that I am going to do that now but just thought let me say a few words 😉

After all the hectic work it feels good to catch up with friends and have some leisure time to do things I like. Each day has been improving but the possibility of work eating into most of my time looms large. But that is some distance away. So right now it is the time to relax.

The weekend has arrived :)

Yes, the weekend is here. How much was I looking forward to this one 🙂

My achievement number one – I managed to sleep for 11 hours on Saturday. I have been having less and less sleep for the past few weeks. I was sleeping less than 5 hours and really wanted to catch up with sleep.

Apart from sleeping, I spent time chatting with friends. It has been a long time since I spoke with a few of them.

What do I intend to do in the one day I have? Nothing. Really, Nothing. Just want to relax before another hectic week begins.

Whats for 2008?

Well, in my previous post, I wrote how I fared in 2007. I have not taken any resolutions this new year. I never took one before for any year. So, here are few little things I would like to do in 2008.

  • Never edit a blog post after I publish it. I dont know how many readers of mine have subscribed to this blog using an RSS reader and sure they would hate me for updating my posts minutes after publishing them
  • Exercise – I place no commitment on this one 😉  but just like to start exercising on fairly regular interval
  • I would have to find more time and substance to post stuff here. I was doing a few reviews in 2007, but I think I should look at posting other things as well
  • Contribute something to the Open Source community. I filed my first bug for the Evolution email client sometime last year and did nothing after that. I always thought I would do more when I get my laptop but sadly to this day I was not able to do so.
  • Get better at work. Who doesn’t want to?
  • Reduce my time spent online unproductively and engage in other activity
  • Update my personal blog at least once in two days

Well, those are the things on my mind right now. And, there will be numerous moments when life throws a challenge at me. I would like to successfully overcome those with Integrity, grace and honour.

Looking back at 2007

The year 2007 has been a great one personally for me for various reasons. Its never too late to look back. Well, the points seem to perfectly connect looking back.

A job switch – for good 🙂

Jan 2007 – I got into my new job. Though the process, had begun during the late months of 2006, it was in January 2007, that I stepped into my job

New friends

The new job brought a lot of great people together and in great variety from all parts of India. A few of them went on to become my best buddies. Some even as late as November. I have fought with one of them like I never did – shame. Things are fine now.

My first laptop

During the month of May, I got my first laptop. A Dell Inspiron 6400. It came with a Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 processor clocking 1.73 GHz, A GB of RAM, 120 GB HUD and guess what, Windows Vista Home Premium. Laptop rates have been going downhill ever since. No regrets though. I am dual booting Ubuntu 7.10 🙂

Three friends got married

Yes, THREE of them got married. All three to the people whom they wanted to marry. One went smooth. The other two had some minor issues that were sorted out before the event. Two more are still single, but well on their way to get married. That leaves me the last bachelor among our friends 😉

Freaking out

This has been a party year. Every month I earned the envy of my friends by sharing a photo album or two. Courtesy of my employer.

6 days into 2008

Year 2008 is six days old and only today I managed to get some time for the first post of the year.

  • The year has started very positively
  • Old friends come together, so I am having a very good time
  • Work wise everything is good
  • I have not made any new year resolutions 😉
  • No plans for a solid post yet.

It’s a dog’s life after all………

Among the scores of email that my friends forward me, few are those regular ones which claim Bill Gates shares his fortune and how to get a free IPod. But once in a while I get some really good stories with a hilarious moral attached to it. Here is one such email that I received.

A butcher watching over his shop is really surprised when he sees a dog coming inside the shop. He shoos him away. But later, the dog is back again. So, he goes over to the dog and notices it has a note in its mouth.

He takes the note and it reads “Can I have 12 sausages and a leg of lamb, please”. The dog has money in its mouth, as well. The butcher looks inside and, there is a ten dollar note there. So he takes the money and puts the sausages and lamb in a bag, placing it in the dog’s mouth.

The butcher is so impressed, and since it’s about closing time, he decides to shut the shop and follow the dog. So off he goes. The dog is walking down the street, when it comes to a level crossing; the dog puts down the bag, jumps up and presses the button. Then it waits patiently, bag in mouth, for the lights to turn. They do, and it walks across the road, with the butcher following him all the way.

The dog then comes to a bus stop, and starts looking at the timetable. The butcher is in awe as the dog stops a bus by pulling its left leg up and gets in it. The butcher follows the dog into the bus. Then the dog shows a ticket which is tied to its belt to the bus conductor. The butcher is nearly fainting at this sight, so are the other passengers in the bus. The dog then sits near the driver’s seat looking outside waiting for the bus stop to come. As soon as the stop is in sight, the dog stands and wags its tail to inform the conductor. Then, without waiting for the bus to stop completely, it jumps out of the bus and runs to a house very close to the stop. It opens the big Iron Gate and rushes inside towards the door.

As it approaches the wooden door, the dog suddenly changes its mind and heads towards the garden. It goes to the window, and beats its head against it several times, walks back, jumps off, and waits at the door. The butcher watches as a big guy opens the door, and starts abusing the dog, kicking him and punching him, and swearing at him.

The butcher surprised with this, runs up, and stops the guy. “What in heaven’s name are you doing? The dog is a genius. He could be on TV, for the life of me!” to which the guy responds: “You call this clever? This is the second time this week that this stupid dog’s forgotten his key.”

Moral of the story: You may continue to exceed onlooker’s expectations but shall always fall short of the boss’ expectations. It’s a dog’s life after all………

Life comes a full round :)

Well, its been a kind of cycle. I get busy with work, then take time off. This has happened in quite a short span of time. Amidst this hectic life, what I just could not pull off is to write a few lines here. Well, I have been posting two liners once a month. Bad huh!! 😦

Yes, I am on vacation again, but not for long. Just 4 days including the weekend, and one day National Holiday. So that translates into 1 day when I will be out of office.

In the months gone by, personally there are a couple of new friends, handful of my old pals got married, few of them changed jobs and overall everything seems to be ok.

Right here, I have applied a new theme to my blog, changed its name, tag line.  All these days, Dell Inspiron 6400 – Part 4 – Installing Ubuntu 7.04 has been the top post of my blog clocking at least 30 hits a day. Well frankly, that is quite a bit of traffic for my blog 😉

I have installed Pidgin 2.2.0 on my Ubunty Feisty Fawn and its looks good. I have not tested it completely so I have not planned for a post here anytime soon. All that I was able to do was some basic chat and it looked quite ok to me despite some drastic changes from GAIM.
